The Level II Registered Nurse is responsible for providing competent care based on established standards within an ICU Stepdown unit, under the direction of the Nurse Manager. This role includes clinical practice, service excellence, professional development, and participation in research and evidence-based practice. The RN assumes an expanded role, which may include charge nurse, preceptor, and committee member responsibilities.

Responsibilities:
- Provide skilled nursing care based on established standards.
- Perform patient assessments, medication administration, and treatment planning.
- Collaborate with the interdisciplinary team.
- Conduct Q1 neuro checks.
- Manage EVDs, lumbar drains, and sub-dural drains.
- Administer 3%NS and cardene drips.
- Manage arterial lines.
- Provide care for patients undergoing carotid endarterectomy, aneurysm coil/clips, and DBS Insertion (Deep Brain Stimulator).
- Manage VP shunts and patients experiencing seizures.
- Function as charge nurse, preceptor, or committee member as needed.
- Document patient care and related duties appropriately.
Required Skills & Certifications:
- Active Registered Nurse license in New York State (NYS).
- BLS certification from the American Heart Association.
- ACLS certification from the American Heart Association.
- Telemetry experience.
- Stepdown/PCU experience.
- Minimum of two (2) years of experience in a similar role.
- Experience in Q1 neuro checks, EVDs, lumbar drains, sub-dural drains, 3%NS and cardene drips, arterial lines, carotid endarterectomy, aneurysm coil/clips, DBS Insertion (Deep Brain Stimulator), VP shunts, seizures.
Preferred Skills & Certifications:
- EPIC experience within the last year.
- High acuity stroke and neurosurgery experience.
Special Considerations:
- Schedule includes rotating day, evening, and night shifts.
- Must be available to work weekends and holidays.
- On-call and callback duties per unit needs.
- Charge responsibilities per unit needs.
